Vet Technicians Support Vet Businesses

Anyone with an animal who has been in a veterinarian’s office has come face-to-face with a vet tech. Vet techs are an integral part of any veterinary hospital. How important are they? Let’s take a look at what they do and what the world of animal care would be like without vet techs.

Animal Care
Vet techs are responsible for many aspects of animal care in a veterinary environment. From exotics to small animals to livestock and equines, vet techs support the animal care element that is necessary to a functioning veterinary facility. Without vet techs, veterinarians would have to hire untrained, inexperienced staff members to assist with exams and animal handling. Without training and education, these staff members would not be able to assist with surgery, anesthesia, fluid and tissue collection, wound care or emergency care. Veterinarians would have to try to fill in. Without vet techs it would be impossible to properly care for animals in an animal hospital.

Lab and Clinical Work
Vet techs are responsible for a huge variety of things in a veterinary facility or hospital. Running laboratory tests, taking x-rays, assisting in surgery, following-up on care procedures with owners, taking medical histories, administering vaccinations and medications, and facility care and maintenance are all part of the role of a vet tech. Without vet techs, untrained staff or veterinarians themselves would have to try to fill the shoes of the missing vet techs. This is a recipe for disaster.

Vet techs are an essential component of any veterinary hospital. Without trained vet techs, the average vet office would fail.
