As an aspiring vet tech, you should know that graduating from a vet tech school isn’t the end of everything. You will once again be put into a test-a more serious one. This will know determine if you are ready for a real vet tech career.

This is a profound examination and it’s good if you really prepare for it months before. You have to stay calm and avoid any kind of stress to come your way. You can seek back up in review classes or do it all by yourself.

The different states across the country have different examinations and in some cases would require additional credentials. However some states are less strict than the others, they may not require examinations. These states are more particular in experience, skills, and attitude towards work.

All the knowledge and skills you’ve learned in vet tech school are included in the examination. These knowledge areas are subdivided into 7 categories namely about pharmacology, surgery, dental procedures, laboratory procedures, basic animal care, radiography, and anesthetics. As you can see, this is everything.

Proficiency in the areas stated above is highly needed by veterinarians and other employers nowadays. This is because of the increasing expectations of pet owners about the quality of animals care rendered to their pets. This is best done with a competent vet tech’s assistance.

The state examination lasts for 4 hours and has 200 questions all in all. The examination is made of multiple choice questions which are much better since you already have the answer somewhere in those four choices, just select the best one.

The examination is conducted twice a year and schedules vary in every state. This is made and conducted by a professional regulation commission in your state and any form of cheating or misconduct during the examination will never be tolerated. This is a very important matter; you will be dealing with lives in the future!

But then again this isn’t still the last step in becoming a full pledged vet tech; this could be the start of your career. In order to pass the examination, you have to do well in a good vet tech school.
